TOUR 1 - SOUTH

The route takes us first through the main towns of Ampenan, Mataram and Cakranegara, where we stop at the Mayura Water Palace, then we go on to Banyumulek, a pottery centre, where we can see a demonstration of how the pottery is made. Next we call at Sukarara village, a traditional weaving centre, and then either Rembitan or Sade villages, which are traditional Sasak villages. We then go on to Kuta beach, where we can stop for lunch and perhaps a swim. If you feel like splashing out a bit, lunch at the astounding Novotel is an experience in itself. Situated on the south coast of Central Lombok, Kuta is at the centre of a series of magnificent beaches, interspersed by headlands with spectacular views. It is, as yet, relatively unspoilt, but there are plans for large scale tourist resort development in the area. Afterwards we drive along the coast to the east, passing a series of beautiful beaches in between impressive headlands, including Segar Beach, about 2 km to the east. It is a very spectacular coastline. Further on, after about 5 km, we come to Tanjung Aan, where there are two beautiful beaches with powdery white sand. We return by the direct route.

TOUR 2 - CENTRAL/EAST LOMBOK

The route takes us first through the main towns of Ampenan, Mataram and Cakranegara, then we join the main road to central and east Lombok, passing through Narmada, Montong, Kopang and Sikur, soon after which we turn left, off the main road. Our first stop is at Loyok village, a centre for various handicrafts. We then go on to Kotaraja village nearby, which is also a handicrafts centre. From here, we climb uphill to the north, to Tetebatu, a hill station on the southern slopes of Gunung Rinjani, at an elevation of about 500 m, where we can stop for lunch in a restaurant overlooking the rice fields. Tetebatu is cool and relaxing, with beautiful views over the rice fields and beyond. There are good walks into the forest and very pleasant walks through the rice fields. Afterwards, we will go on to the spectacular Jeruk Manis waterfall, which is close by, and our final port of call will be Pringgasela, a weaving village.

TOUR 3 - NORTH LOMBOK

The route takes us first to Gunung Sari, a bamboo craft village north of Mataram, then we follow the main road north, over Pusuk pass and down through the monkey forest. We then pass through Pemenang and go on to Tanjung, the capital of the area, where we will visit the market. We then follow the main road along the coast, with great views over the coastline, paddy fields, and towards the mountains, with Gunung Rinjani the dominant feature. We go on to Bayan, which has a very old mosque, then take the road up the northern slopes of Rinjani to Batu Koq, where we can stop for lunch in a restaurant with beautiful views over the mountains and the sea. Here, we are at an elevation of about 500 metres and it is beautifully cool. Here we can relax and visit the spectacular Sendang Gila waterfall. For the fit and energetic there is a second waterfall, Gillep, about two kilometres upstream of the first, accessible along the river bed and through the rain forest, which is well worth a visit. Later, if time permits, we can also visit Senaru village, which is a genuine traditional village, and not one specially tarted up for tourists. It is like looking into a past age. Take camera. .

HALF-DAY TOUR MATARAM AND DISTRICT

TThis tour takes us through Ampenan, Mataram and Cakranegara, where we stop at the Mayura Water Palace. We then go on to Sweta market, the largest in Lombok, which is a good place to go shopping. Next, we go east to Narmada, to visit the famous temple there, then turn north to Suranadi, to another temple. Our last port of call is the very important temple at Lingsar, from which we will return by the direct route to Mataram.
